And what did you over-cook during the holidays??

So.. I promised you yesterday to share what happens when a dog stands too close to fire.  (I can't believe mom is making me share this with the world... how embarrassing!)  Butt for your viewing pleasure, here it is...

By the time mom got around to taking the picture, big sister had already brushed the black ashes from the "spot".  The smell hit before they saw me and instantly everyone knew just what had happened.  Fortunately I was smart enough to move before it burned skin.  A new lesson I have learned full well!  For you fellow Disney fans, mom says this brings a whole new meaning to "the smolder".  BOL!!

Stop by tomorrow to read our Sunday Sermon - 2012 "Year of the Dog".

Decking the Halls

Well, things didn't go quite as planned... but they seldom do around here.

Instead of heading to a tree farm to cut down our tree, we decided to put our old artificial one up instead.  Mom was scared we dogs would be led into temptation to mark our territory should a real tree exist inside of our home.

After lunch yesterday we headed out to decorate the outside of the house.  I was in charge of supervising, but quickly became distracted by the piles of leaves.  So I left the heavy work to Dad and Jaden, while Connor and I played, played, played.

Do you remember that one of our traditions is decorating in our pj's?  Well, I don't have any of those, so I just participated in the furs God gave me.  Everyone else looked pretty silly!!

Jaden, Connor, Isaac, and Dacey

My peeples took several play breaks during the work...  Dad helped Connor ride his bike with one training wheel off and then had leave wars with Dacey and Jaden.  They make being peeples look so fun!!

Somehow they still managed to get the work done.

Of course, my ornament looked best:
It even has my name on the bottom of it!!

Thanksgiving 2011 was a fun day.  We have so much we are thankful for - but mostly we are thankful just to be blessed to have each other in our lives.

It's Beginning To Look A Lot Like -

Rose Bud's first Christmas.
CHRISTMAS!!

As we've said before, mom goes hog wild at Christmas time.  She believes that we should celebrate Thanksgiving and Christmas in our hearts every day - not just one day a year.  So for the entire season, we have one thing going after another.  Gifts aren't nearly as important as opportunities to make memories - and all of our favorite Christmas memories include our favorite Christmas traditions.

We've already shared that after our meal Thursday, we will head out to cut down a tree, and look at light displays.  Then Friday we'll decorate the entire house.

Each year each of the humans get a new ornament to add to the Christmas tree.  All of the dogs have one on the tree too - although we are somewhat jipped cause we don't get new ornaments each year.  With this being mine and Kudzu's first Christmas, mom has been on the lookout for the pawfect ornament for us.  She has yet to find mine but is sure she will.  She found one that looked enough like Kudzu that it would work (even though he is more red than brown).  However, we were all a little taken back yesterday when she popped the ornaments front leg off.  It was horrifying for sure.  She said she wanted it to accurately represent him - which we appreciate - but the way she went about it was so disturbing!!

It all sounds so fun and I just can't wait!

Here are some more pictures of Rose Bud's first Christmas:

Rose Bud carolling with our family.  Cosmo went too.  The black and brown dog is one we fostered that year.

Rose Bud couldn't wait to dig into her stocking - and now that I know such a thing exists - NEITHER CAN I!!!

We've already been watching Christmas movies by the boat load.  Saturday we watched A Christmas Wedding Tail on Hallmark.  Last night there was another one we missed but recorded, A Dog Named Christmas.  Tonight Santa Buddies and Santa Paws come on ABC Family!!  Those are our two favorites!!  (If you haven't seen Santa Paws, don't miss it!  It is the best  Christmas movie since It's a Wonderful Life!

We hope you are all getting into the spirit of the season too.

Bigger Bed Back Story

Remember this picture from last week's Wordless Wednesday?

Lots of you said it was time for Mom to get me a bigger bed.

The truth is:  this isn't my bed at all.  It belongs to Joy and Ohno.

The truth is:  I want this bed for my own.  Most often before I get in it, I have to take one or both of them out of it.  Yes, I really do literally remove them from their comfy spot by gently lifting them in my mouth and putting them on the floor.  It may seem harsh, but it's a dog eat dog world!

Move over, Morkies.  I am  Boondocks.  Here me "AROOOF!"

P.S.  Mom is going to be working on a new background and header for us.  She wants a better template to make some of our blog features more accessible.  Keep an eye out for our new look coming soon

Walking, Camping, Hiking - Oh my!

What a week!!

We shared last Saturday that October 1st through 7th marked National Walk Your Dog Week.  Boy, did the humans make good on that.  We walked everyday last week except for yesterday - at that point we were all too tired to think straight let alone walk anywhere.

We celebrated our small two legger, Isaac's, 9th birthday yesterday.  As part of the celebration, Isaac requested to go camping.

So off we went - four two legged kiddos, five golden retrievers, oh and mom and dad too.  (Yes, anyone willing to primitive camp with four kids and five dogs might be considered slightly insane, but as the humans say, "If the shoe fits....")

What a fabulous adventure we had!

See for yourself:

We supervised the humans as they set up the tent.

They do all the work.  We do most of the play!

Here I am hurrying them along.

Scarlet and Dacey taking an early morning walk.

Playing at the creek was the best!!

I couldn't wait to jump in!

We ran and chased and ran.
We had fun taking the kids for walks.
Dacey and Rose Bud went down a nature trail.
Connor and Kudzu stop to inspect some foilage.
At night dad built a big fire.
We supervised that too.

Dad danced with his princess.
That silly Jaden told scary stories.  (They were funnier than scary though.)

We had a grand time and can't wait to go back!
But first we have some napping to do.

Birthday Girls

Last week marked the birfday of two of our family's girls:  Dacey (a human) turned 13 on 9/15 and Rose Bud (a dog) turned two on 9/10.  Since RB is Dacey's dog, they had no problem sharing the celebration.

Dacey became a teenager.  I'm not sure why, but mom has shed lots of tears and asked most well wishers to pray for her as she enters the next few years.  Oh well...  those humans sure can be silly sometimes.

In dog years, RoseBud also became a teenager - a full year older than her human.

Tonight we had a party to celebrate the birfday ladies.

From left to right: Cosmo & Isaac, Rose Bud & Dacey, Connor with Scarlet & Kudzu, Boondocks, Jaden with Ohno & Joy.

Dacey couldn't wait until tonight to celebrate.  (She isn't as patient as Rose Bud.)  So Mom and Nana took her out on her actual big day last week.  When they came home, it looked like they'd brought the mall back with 'em.  (Mom says Dacey already has the 'shopping like a teenager down good!)

Tonight Rose Bud finally got to open her presents.  Dacey asked her which she wanted to open first.  She chose the one on the right and wasted  no time tearing into the gift.  (She got a new collar to match Dacey's new bike and a pack of Cesar dog treats.)

There was also cake that Mom and Dacey made special just for us doggies:

As you can see, we all dressed our best for the pawty.  Of course, Dacey and RoseBud dressed to match.  Even the Morkies got all gussied up for the occassion.

Happy Birfday, Dacey and Rose Bud.  We wuf vu two so vewy much!!!
