Boon's Sunday Sermon # 16 - Shatterproof

Boondocks has now proven that Kongs, Corelle dishes, and shatterproof ornaments are no match for his chompers.

As I sat looking at Boon's latest accomplishment, I was reminded that our hearts are not that different than these ornaments.

We live our lives as though nothing can touch us.  We  allow ourselves to open our hearts to people and things that have no intentions but harm for us.  Sometimes even when we fully realize that, we continue full speed ahead into a bad relationship, business venture, or other seemingly harmless acts that are doomed to cause despair and destruction.

We are told in Proverbs 4:23, "Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life."

Yet we throw caution to the wind.  We allow friends to shape our opinions, we allow an authority figure to mold our image of ourselves, and other such things until we find ourselves in a position of brokenness.

When we find ourselves in such a place, God still gives us hope.  He says, "The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart, O God, you will not despise."

God still holds us in the palm of His hand.  He is not willing that any should perish.  He promises in Psalm 147:3, "He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds."

He can and will take all the mistakes from our past and use them for something good.  Romans 8:28 says, "And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose."

God knows where you've been and He knows where you are.  Call out to Him and let Him make those mistakes into something beautiful and worthwhile.

To all who mourn in Israel, he will give a crown of beauty for ashes, a joyous blessing instead of mourning, festive praise instead of despair. In their righteousness, they will be like great oaks that the LORD has planted for his own glory.  Isaiah 61:3

Our hearts ARE just like those ornaments...not at all shatterproof. Great post!
