Dog Days Dog Camp for Kids - Part Two

Well, this week kicked off Brookhaven Animal Rescue League's second annual Dog Days of Summer Doggie Day Camp for Kids.  I blogged earlier in the week about the first couple of days.  Today I want to catch you up on Wednesday and Thursday's events!

On Wednesday there was a Search and Rescue dog demonstration presented by Lycia Moran.  Her dogs, Piper and Chancy, were amazing.  Chancy tracked one of our campers and Piper did some exciting tricks for us.  The kids were really impressed!

(Bert, dude, is there anyone as cool as you?  We don't think so!  We did share your posters with the handler and her team.  They all agreed you are very handsome.)

That afternoon Dr. Kimble came by for our vet visit.  He taught the kids all about heart worms and how to prevent them.  He had a really cool display that shows a model of what an infected heart looks like:

I am sure by this point you are all wondering if mom held true to her promise and let us go to camp.  I am very disgusted and sickened to have to admit that only Kudzu was allowed to go with her on both Wednesday and Thursday.  For some reason mom thinks I'm too high strung to be trusted while she's busy being camp director.  I have no idea what she means by that!   HUMPH!

Kudzu was an instant hit with the children as I'm sure you can imagine.

On Thursday Mike Callahan visited with his labs.  Miss. Fancy did some very 'fancy' counting tricks for us while Jake taught us about the importance of avoiding temptation and letting the Master guide our steps instead.  It was beautifully presented and a hit with the kids.

Thursday's vet visit was a very special treat.  We had the honor of having the one, the only Dr. Stacy from Copiah Animal Hospital with us.  Dr. Stacy is very special to us because she and her husband, Dr. Mike are the ones who saved Kudzu and then rehomed him with us.  Kudzu was so happy to see her again.  As part of her presentation she let each the kids take turns examining Kudzu and listening to his heart.

Not liking one single bit that Kudzu's getting to have all the fun.  <disappointed sigh>

Tune in tomorrow for Friday's report including pictures of the DOG PARADE and find out if poor, pitiful me got to participate any at all.  See y'all then!

  4. Hey Boon, I am sorry you didn't get to go and I am sure you were a little dissapointed on how WELL Kudzu did, but you gotta give him credit.

He really did look totally at ease and perfect for the situation.

Don't worry, I was a bit of a maniac when I was your age too, but the day will come when you will be "The Dude"

    I promise.

My Vickie is very glad the posters worked out for you and super happy you got a cool Lady to come and do the search dog demo.

Can't wait to see Fridays pics.

    Love

  6. We are so sorry you didn't get to go, Boondocks. That is such a great camp, we know our little bipeds would love to have a chance to do that. But we don't think there is anything like that around here.

Hope you got to go to the parade - you would surely be the star.
